This was my question, and I have to say that I was somewhat thrown off the scent by the use of the phrase "religious monument". I was actually there four or five months ago, and what Angkor Wat is is a temple complex.
The phrase in question obviously comes from Wikipedia, and I know that Wikipedia has a habit of describing any historical building or edifice as a monument. While I don't have any problem with this in principle, I did find it rather confusing, as I say, in this particular context. IMHO the phrase "temple complex" would have made for a better question.
